Oliva presents her poster on “Student perceptions of faculty culturally aware mentoring predict science identity” at the annual meeting of the Western Psychological Association (WPA), Riverside, CA.

Oliva is interested in researching mentoring styles that students experience within STEM environments. She is particularly interested in building on literature/research regarding cultural responsive mentoring practices and cultural aware mentoring which has been inspired by her introduction to Dr. Angela Byars-Winston’s work.

In her poster presentation, Oliva talked about how students perceptions of there faculty mentors culturally aware mentoring practices associate with a students science identity.

“I really enjoyed that the conference was student centered. The faculty and presenting students were so friendly and supportive. I enjoyed learning about new research in the psychology field from both faculty and student talks.”
